Ethics is an important part of fiscal stewardship. Indiana University receives funding from various avenues including the federal government as well as Indiana taxpayers. It is imperative that IU employees who have an influence in buying decisions conduct themselves to the highest degree of ethical standards.
Policy FIN-PURCH-09: Purchasing Ethics details a code of ethics to promote public confidence and protect the integrity and reputation of the University. This code of ethics applies not only to Purchasing staff, but to all IU employees that may buy or influence a buying decision.
One way a department can promote ethical procurement is by bringing Purchasing into the conversation when you are exploring a new product or service. This allows for transparency and enables Purchasing to source in a fair and equitable manner.
Another good practice is using the Comments section in BUY.IU to log notes, upload attachments, and ask questions about a purchasing situation. This keeps all the relevant information in one place should questions arise in the future.
