April 8th Solar Eclipse event at IU causes travel hurdles
On April 8, 2024, around 3pm, Bloomington will be directly in the middle of the path of totality for the upcoming total solar eclipse. The university is planning a large gathering to celebrate and according to IU Public Safety, the town is expecting hundreds of thousands of visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of the astral event. Units should be mindful that guest travel to Bloomington surrounding the April 8 eclipse, if available at all, will be very expensive. There’s already very little lodging available around that date and those rooms are mostly greater than $500 per night. This will likely impact travel and lodging in Indianapolis as well. Departments should plan accordingly.
