The Purchasing Scientific (SCI) team is a highly motivated and effective group of individuals who excel at:
- analyzing pricing and processing orders,
- developing, evaluating, and awarding competitively sourced products and services, and
- negotiating and executing contracts for all things SCI.

The SCI team works diligently to make sure our IU departmental stakeholders get the best value on their purchases. This best value initiative includes, but is not limited to, competitive pricing, high quality products and services, as well as advanced mitigation of risk. They work tirelessly to ensure orders are processed quickly to meet required deadlines and provide customer service to those in need!
The SCI team partnered with Environmental Health & Safety and Facility Operations during the COVID-19 pandemic to keep all IU campuses running safely during COVID restrictions. The SCI team’s efforts included sourcing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as sanitizer and masks, as well as COVID rapid tests, testing reagents, sample collection materials, and on-site testing equipment/robots.
Below are some additional accomplishments of the team:
- Managed the Request for Bid (RFP) process for major projects including the Cath Lab, Digital Dental, and the bulk nitrogen tank for the BL Chemistry building.
- Implemented the core four scientific supply contracts with Fisher Scientific, VWR, Dot Scientific and Neta Scientific to give end users a variety of choice while maintaining best value.
- Successfully negotiated several contract renewals with key suppliers such as Becton Dickenson (BD), Remi, and ATI.
